subject: Jim Gaffigan Tickets - Jim Gaffigan Continues To Beef Up Film Resume [print this page]

Triple threat Jim Gaffigan-equally known for his stand-up routine, acting roles both on the big and small screens and writing-will star in the upcoming comedy-drama It's Kind of a Funny Story. From the filmmakers of Half Nelson starring Ryan Gosling, It's Kind of a Funny Story is a coming-of-age flick about a teenage boy (played by Keir Gilchrist, known for his role as Toni Collette's sexually confused son on Showtime's United States of Tara) who checks himself into a mental health clinic as a way to escape his teenage years, but winds up in the adult ward instead.

Based on the 2006 Ned Vizzini novel of the same name, Reuters reveals that It's Kind of a Funny Story also stars Emma Roberts (that's Julia's niece), Zach Galifianakis, Viola Davis, Aasif Mandavi, Lauren Graham, Zoe Kravitz and Gaffigan. Writer-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck experienced their big break with Half Nelson, and thus expectations for the upcoming Focus Features release, which begins shooting in early December in New York, are high. Gaffigan will also appear in the upcoming film Going the Distance starring Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, Christina Applegate and Ron Livingston.

Jim Gaffigan first became known for his somewhat subtle brand of comedy as a regular on both The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O'Brien (and has been tapped to appear on Conan's new show, The Tonight Show, recently). Letterman asked Gaffigan to develop a sitcom shortly after he appeared on his show and the resulting Welcome to New York debuted to critical acclaim just 18 months later. Stints on The Ellen Show, That 70s Show and Ed and cameos on Third Watch and Sex and the City followed for Gaffigan, who is currently featured on TBS's first original scripted comedy series, My Boys.

Although Gaffigan did utter the memorable "meow" in the cult film Super Troopers, the versatile comedian and actor proved he is capable of more serious subject matter in the post-9/11 film The Great New Wonderful, in which he delivered an explosive performance playing an office worker facing the tragic aftermath of the terrorist attacks. Gaffigan's film credits also include 13 Going on 30, Igby Goes Down, The Living Wake, Trust the Man and more.

Along with fellow fair-skinned funnyman Conan O'Brien, Gaffigan co-writes and provides vocals to Pale Force. The hilarious series of animated shorts features a pair of pale superheroes who fight crime and is an online sensation in addition to also being regularly featured on Conan's late night show. Gaffigan has also earned accolades for his commercial presence, with starring roles in award-winning campaigns for Rolling Rock, ESPN, Saturn and Sierra Mist.

Of his unique talent, Comedy Central says, "As approachable as he is edgy, Jim is responsible for some of the funniest and most memorable moments in recent television (primetime, cable and late-night circuit) and film."
