The Mindset Of An Artist
The Mindset Of An Artist

In my almost 20 years in the music biz, I've seen the best talent ever! Most of the best talents I've met are NOT the big stars, but actually upcoming artists. Most artists with the promising talent never make it and you sometimes wonder WHY some of the most untalented people are on the top of Billboard charts and the most talented artists in the world are undiscovered.

Here are the 3 biggest mistakes that artists do today!

1. Artists don't believe in themselves

Now, why don't Artists believe in themselves? Our basic identity is formed very early on in our life and the environment and the people around us influence us and help create who we are.

The problem with us artists is that we are dreamers. We dream of becoming famous, hearing our songs on the radio, performing in front of hundreds of people etc. That's an important part of manifesting our dreams.

But, not ALL people are like that and that's where the conflict starts. You're talking to someone about your big dreams. Now, this person may not have the same big goals. And because big dreams can scare people, the other person will try to diminish your dreams. I'm sure you've hear people tell you, "in your best interest" that:

"Make sure you have a Plan B", "It's a tough business, so you better get a real job" etc.

Now, on the surface it all seems harmless, but later on, you might start to think like your friend and begin to tell yourself"Well, maybe I SHOULD get a real job" or "Maybe my friend was right etc and now the insecurities start!

Now is there a way to avoid this? Absolutely! Take your craft and your goals serious! And demand that others take it serious. Don't ever allow anyone to tell you, you can't make it.

The next time someone tries to degrade you, tell that person to respect you and your goals, even if they don't agree with it!

2. Artists don't execute

Artists are big dreamers. When in the process of creating music, artists can become a little introverted. That's great for creating music, but not good WHEN the creation part is over. When you're music is done, you need to promote your music or find a label that can promote you. Whatever your goal is, you need to EXECUTE!

I know TOO many artists that literally think that they will be "discovered"! How will anybody discover you in your home? Do you think a label will say, "Well, let me tune into my higher powers, I think there's a great singer that lives in New York. Yes, at Fulton Street, let's go over there and sign her! J

All of the major artists have done the grinding; Madonna went to the clubs in NY and begged the DJ's to play her songs long before she became famous. She wouldn't have made it, IF she hadn't gone out there and EXECUTED!

She would just have been another girl with a demo, dreaming of becoming a star.

If an artist just sat down and mapped out WHAT he was trying to do and figured out HOW he would get there and then every day did steps towards that goal, he would likely make it.

3. Artists don't have a winning mindset

If you talk to an upcoming artist and an established artist, they have different mindset. The upcoming artist will within the first hour of a conversation say things like: "The Music Business is tough", "I'm SO broke", "It's only people like Britney Spears the labels are signing" etc.

That mindset will take them nowhere in life.

If you constantly think you're broke, then that's what you will continue to create. You have to change your mindset. How do you do that? By looking at successful artists thinking patterns and learn from them. Here's an example of Madonna's mindset:

"I stand for freedom of expression, doing what you believe in, and going after your dreams".

Madonna

So, remember, you can be, do and have ANYTHING in this universe and the only one, who's holding you back, is YOU. And when YOU start to change, the world will change around you.
