Water is a natural solvent which dissolves everything that comes in it. Around 70% of earth surface is covered with water. Our body also uses water for various processes it does like digestion, respiration, excretion etc. Water is available in two forms, hard water and soft water. Hard water is that form of water which contains ions of Magnesium and phosphorous. Take an example of a boiler where water is heated at high temperature so that steam can be produced. This is done at high temperatures. The water gets converted into steam but when it contains hard mineral ions then white salts get settled down to the bottom. That does not get removed and go on accumulating there. This is called scaling. Due to this more heat is required to boil the water. The salt settled there can cause rusting of boiler or thinner the surface. This can be proved very risky if preventive measures are not taken on right time. A blast can also occur.

The market is flooded with water softening salt tablet that can help in removing hardness of water. These water softening salt tablets are good for domestic purposes also.
