The weekend was held at the HQ for the region. The weather had been terrible so we and other detachments arrived late pushing the timings back. We finally got going at about 10pm and had a mountain of forms to fill out. Once these were filled we were attested (sworn in) and then had to have compulsory lecture. The room we were in was hot and stuffy so we were all trying our best to stay awake.
Once we were dismissed we were told to grab showers before sleeping. After sorting our stuff we managed to get to sleep at 0100, which wasn't great considering the alarm was set for 0615. At 0615 the alarm went off and we all got up for the morning routine shave, shower and change into our kit. We went for a breakfast, which wasn't much (shrunk sausage, bacon, beans & tomato) luckily they pulled out some cereal which helped fill the gap. After breakfast we had some lectures and then went for Drill.
I have been looking forward to this, however being outside in minus temperatures with only a shirt and trousers on soon curbed my enthusiasm. A few of the lads were struggling more than me and luckily we soon went inside for the lecture. Towards the end of the lecture we still had to go outside to receive tuition on a couple of moves, which would have worked inside, due to the space. Just as we were finishing the other squad turned up, thinking they had been outside for all this time we were feeling gutted for them until we found out they had been inside for their entire lecture.
