subject: Develop Store Layouts That Increase Business [print this page]

Developing a retail business that really converts is a task that a lot of people are just not able to do. The reality is that even if this type of thing does not come naturally, it is a skill that can be acquired over time. The competition for business these days is fierce, which means people that are running businesses need to take plenty of care when planning their business to ensure that they can run a sustainable one.

There are plenty of different things that need to take into account when looking into developing a business from scratch, or simply developing an existing business. For instance, a lot of store owners do not understand the importance of their store layouts. Instead of spending careful time and consideration over store layouts, they rush to get their stock out for everyone to see as soon as possible.

Here is the big problem though; people wont spend too much time looking for products. This means that if there is a gadgets section in a shop, and this is all the consumer is looking for, anything that comes under this category must be here. If they do not find what they are looking for, they might not think to look elsewhere.

This is a simple example of where store owners make a simple mistake. They assume that if they get their stock room onto the retail floor, they will increase their sales. The reality is that a gadget might be located in the gifts section of a store. That being said, if there is a specific gadget section; why would the consumer look for the product in the gifts section?

Developing store layouts that really work is something that a lot of store owners struggle with. Some store owners choose to produce their stock in brand order, so one section might be a certain fashion brand, where as somewhere else in the store their might be another fashion brand as well. Other store owners choose to do things a different way, putting items into sections such as TV, Music, and Games and so on.

Whatever the type of store layouts being used, the owner should test a few different layouts to check they are using the best one. If they split test the different store layouts and see how this relates to sales, they will quickly be able to see which store layouts convert to sales the best.
