The Process of Teaching and Training
The Process of Teaching and Training

In the course of teaching and training of our children, it is necessary that we set our objectives and goals. We must not just teach anything anyhow or haphazardly. We must be realistic and systematic in teaching. Our teaching should touch every aspect and areas of life, which should include Christian conduct and comportment, personal hygiene and grooming, principles of responsibility and accountability, total separation from the world and its evil practices. Parents are expected to teach their children appropriately that their bodies are not to be defied with any form of immorality and as a result their bodies must be treated with utmost respect and value.

Someone once remarked that no one carelessly exposes his or her valuable possessions such as cheque books, certificates, cars e.t.c, and so the flagrant exposure of one's nakedness is a statement of its worthlessness.

We are to train them to respect their bodies this is very important, as a precious possession and as the temple of God. You must teach them that they are wonderfully and fearfully made, hence they need not develop complexes that lead to making up and all sorts of fashion statements.

Teach your children how to love, accept and appreciate themselves the way they are as God's creatures. Never you call your children bad names. Tell them they are beautiful as they are and need not resort to the various enhancements the world provides for the malcontent.

Life is all about making choices. Our life today, whether enviable or pitiable are product of our past choices, in fact the decision we make today will definitely determine our destiny. Therefore it is expected of us as parent to teach our children how to make good choices in life, in order to be self dependent and have the fortitude to face problems, challenges and crises and tackle them squarely.

Also train them to have the courage to say "no" even if it make them unpopular, choosing the right even when every other person around them are going the popular but wrong way. Equally warn them against the assault of the world's temptations and pressures with sound biblical convictions.

Teach them to be contented with what they have and they not need to augment their pocket money through dishonest means because it is the lack of contentment that leads many to trade their bodies for money and materials things that also make our boys to join groups that go about forcefully dispossessing others of their hand-earned valuables.

You must cultivate the habit of conversing and listening to them. Ask questions that will draw out their attention by doing this you'll get to know them better and definitely they will come back to you in the later years to ask questions when they are confused and that won't be difficult for them at all.

Talking about his upbringing and why he turned out right, David Wilkerson said "It was man who really made our houses a home". Her arms were always open, she prayed and love and cared. Man was a mind reader too, as so many wise mothers are. Whenever I returned home scared to death as a result of some small infraction I had committed, she would say 'All right David, come here' and I knew I had to tell her where I had been and what I had been doing.

So learn to observe their moods, frustrations and challenges and then lend a helping hand to them. Establish real standard of conduct for them, support this with rewards for compliance and reprimand for violations.
