Diablo 3 is a dark horror-themed action rpg that is upcoming to be released and developed by blizzard, this will make it the 3rd installment of the diablo series. The game was first announced on june 28, 2008, at blizzards world wide invitational in paris, france, and creates elements of the dungeon fighting.
The game takes place in diablos sanctuary in the dark fantasy world. A some of unnamed heroes in diablo ii had saved this world twenty years before. Warriors that survived the holocaust of the armies of the burning hells have gone mad from their ordeals and it is up to a new class of heroes to face the forces of evil threatening the world of sanctuary. The only guaranteed npcs are deckard cain,who has appeared in both of the previous games, and his daughter, a new character that accompanies the hero in quests once in a while. Cains journal on the official site brings the player up to date on the events of the first 2 games. Diablos global map is constituted primarily of 2 main continents with multiple small islands in the northwest region. In the meantime, players will have the opportunity to explore familiar settings such as tristram.
Diablo 3 is similar in genre to its predecessor, diablo ii. The creators have stated that directx 10 will not be required, and are aiming to make the game function on a wide variety of systems. The proprietary engine will include havok physics and feature destructible environments with an in-game damage effect. Diablo 3 will use a separate 3d game engine in order to create an overhead view to the player, in a somewhat similar way to the isometric view used in previous games in the series. Enemies will utilize the 3d environment also, in ways such as climbibg up the side of a wall from the depths into the battling zone.
As in diablo ii, multiplayer games will be possible using blizzards battle.Net service, with multiple of the new features developed for starcraft ii also available in diablo 3. Players will be able to drop in and out of sessions of co-operative play with others. The game will be able to offer different experiences with each time it is replayed by using an unique quest system, a random level generator, and a random encounter generator. All in all, the game will include both static and randomly generated maps. Additionally, there will be character-specific quests to go along with the main storyline quests. Blizzard originally organized to have in-game cutscenes, but later decided these would take away from the gameplay and decided against them. Shoulder plates and leggings will also be available as new armor pieces and upgrades.
