One good place to start the investigation of a company is the Better Business Bureau. You can log onto the Better Business Bureau website (BBB.com) and type in the name of the company you are examination. The BBB has a rating system used to "grade" the success and integrity of the company. The rating is a scale from A+ to F, A+ being the best and F being the lowest. On the BBB site you will find many facts about the business; when the business was started, who established it, the company address and contact information, what the company does and many other details. You will also find a list of complaints that have been on record with the BBB and if the complaints were satisfactorily resolved. The BBB also provides several awards given to successful companies. The BBB is not necessarily the "tell all" of a company but it is a great place to commence.
There is never a fool proof course of knowing if a company is authentic or not. To begin your inspection going to the BBB website to see if they are accredited or if they have been rated by them is a very good place to start.
