A liquid crystal display module is an electro-optical amplitude modulator as a thin, flat panel display of any color or black and white pixels of the light source or mirror them the number of devices prior to implementation. It is often used in battery-powered electronic devices because it uses very small amounts of electricity.

Each pixel LCD is usually one or two transparent electrodes and two polarizing filters arranged in molecules, in which the axis of communication layers (in most cases) perpendicular to each other. In the absence of liquid crystal between the polarizing filters, light passing through the first filter will be blocked, and the second through the (cross) polarizer. The electrode in contact with the surface of the liquid crystal materials and processing, in order to make it in a particular direction of the liquid crystal molecules. This treatment is usually very thin polymer layers, using one-way friction, for example, a cloth. The liquid crystal alignment direction, and define the direction of friction.

Electrode is called indium tin oxide (ITO) transparent conductive. Applying an electric field, the orientation of liquid crystal molecules aligned by the surface. In a twisted nematic device (still the most common liquid crystal device), aligned in two directions perpendicular to each other electrode surface, so the molecules arranged in a spiral structure, or distort their own. As liquid crystal material is a birefringent filter through the polarizer, the light transmission is rotating liquid crystal helix as it passes through the liquid crystal layer, allowing it through the second polarizing filter. The absorption of incident light, half of the first polarizing filter, but otherwise, the entire assembly of a reasonable and transparent. LCM polarizer removed from the top of the device and the top, so that the top and bottom polarizers are cross-placed.
