Backhaul Solutions

Backhaul trucking refers to the hauler's opportunity to pick up a second load of merchandise that is already close to the destination where they delivered their first load; for example returning to the origin of the first load. This affords a company an opportunity to move their merchandise at a cheaper rate than traditional trucking would allow. Backhauling is a good solution for a small business on a budget. Over the last few years, truckers' operational costs for essential items such as fuel, equipment and insurance have skyrocketed, taking their toll on carrier companies of all shapes and sizes. So, the more efficient a carrier's operation is the lower the shipper's overall costs and closer to total quality logistics. Carriers want and even need companies to provide them with opportunities to move freight at every point of delivery. Basically a truck carries product to a destination, and then returns without anything to haul to its origin. This makes the cost for transport nearly double the cost of merely sending the product to its destination. When a company can find a way to bring some product back on the same route instead of having the truck make an empty backhaul, it's like sharing the transport cost with another distributor. Reducing empty backhauls is also an environmentally friendly green choice. Over 85% of our energy demands are met by the combustion of natural fossil fuels. The byproducts that form from the burning of these fossil fuels are very dangerous to our heath. These small byproduct particles can exist in the air for indefinite periods of time, up to several weeks and can travel for miles. The particles, sometimes smaller than 10 microns in diameter, can reach deep within the lungs. Particles that are smaller than this can enter the blood stream, irritating the lungs and carry with them toxic substances such as heavy metals and pollutants. Cutting these pollutants by using one truck for two jobs can have a drastic impact on how much of those byproducts are in our air. If a company can find freight that needs to be moved out of an area they ship to, they are much more likely to offer to move that freight at a reduced cost. It is worth checking for companies willing to offer backhaul service to your area. Remember, not only will you save money; you are also helping the environment.
