With the internet has come some wonderful forms of communication but it has opened people to a weapon. People with too much time on there hands can use it to severly harm another individual or business. Most of these folks have no clue that what they do can severely harm another human being emotionally. About six months ago I was personally attacked on line by a blogger. The problem is when they attack your biusiness it becomes a personal attack because your name is in it.What I came to realize is although it seems very traumatic there are things you can do to help.
1. Go on all the high ranked classifieds and web directories and put ads on about yourself and your business. These can be found easily with a google search "google high ranked classifieds and web directories" . There are thousands of them. Get your name and business out there. Repitition is the key. Most of these are free. For a business use Google local and use the business description page. This is simpley done by opening a google "places" or local account.
2.Write articles just like this one on article base and other article directories. These again are easily found with a search"high ranked article directories. Do the same thing with press releases.
any press release will do, it is just a fact or announcement.
3. go on the social networks and do the same thing
The more you have out there, the more you can offset the" bad Press"
Most of all, see these folks for who they really are. They are using you for their own publicity.
My story: I started an organization The Jewish American Bar Association. I ran an ad "prefer a jewish Lawyer" It was seen by a local attorney who proceeded to attack me. He " wanted people to chjose him because he was a good attorney" Not because he was Jewish. He then proceeded to attack that a social worker had no right to do this and went as far as to say I had broken the law. He admistted on othe blogs that he was doing this for promotion. Some of the comments were very offensive. What was the most comical ? He used the tag "Jewish lawyer" thru-out the entire country to bring attention to his blog and his comments. Obviously he wanted to be found under the Tag "Jewish Lawyer." He who attacked and called my ad anti semetic. He also used the tag Jewish American Bar Association with every state after the name. Well of course, being an estate planning attorney in south Florida he knows there are many "Jewish" children with elderly parents in Florida.
As you can see most of these folks are really out for their own self aggrandizement.
Do not attack back. Just spend a few hours a week putting more and more on line. Nort only will this calm the nerves but, you will learn some good internet skells as well. Maybe someday Google with all its algorithms and goals of relevance will find a way to filter these folks out as hurtful and irrelevant.
The truth is once something is on the internet it is very hard to go away. All you can do is surround it. It is most likely effecting you more then people actually pay attention to it.
This is easier to accept and correct if you are a business. Just get your business name out there with positive comments. If you are an individually attacked you can still post comment on these classidied sites under the announcements or personal headers. There are a number of social sites you can join and post comments and ask for help. A good one is Cafe moms.
This site is very supportive. You will have to look around and explore to find onese relevant to you. You can also get some friend or relatives to help. If it is a blog or article that has been picked up by other bloggers be careful. Do not click on the blog itself to read it. The more clicks it gets the more relevant it becomes. Always use the "cached " to read it. Also do not post comments on negative blogs. Only post on positve reviews. The posting make it more relevant to the day of the posting. Yes, people will see you positive comment but, you are far better mutiplying yourself with the outline I have provided
