Toshiba DVR670 DVD/VHS Recorder Review

The Toshiba DVR670 is a true multi-purpose solution with VCR and DVD playback, as well as 1080p upconversion to near HD quality via HDMI and a built-in digital tuner. Easily copy your VHS tapes to DVD with bi-directional dubbing, and enjoy your favorite digital photos in an on-screen slideshow.

The digital tuner can pick up all the "clear" local HDTV signals on Cablevision's cable system (using a simple splitter) which enables you to record one show at 480p using the DVD while watching another in full HD either via the TV's tuner or via the cable box. Or record any of remaining channels non-clear channels using the cable box's S-Video out (the best you can use as external recording input source). The quality of this DVD Recorder, due to the tuner recordings (in 2 hour SP mode) is almost as good as the original as seen on a 720p TV and it is certainly far better than the VCR side. Plus, the DVD-RW discs are of course re-usable via an erase (or format, as Toshiba calls it). Recording is almost one-touch, really very convenient. With this DVD VHS combo there will be no reason to record anything on a VHS tape again. This box is a great alternative to the monthly fee for a HD based DVR if you do not need any of the fancy programing and scheduling features that come with such other options.

Here is what a very satisfied customer had to say about the Toshiba DVR670:

Norma L. Biery - Toshiba DVD/VCR

I helped my grandma research and then pick and purchase this machine from Amazon. Her dvd player died and she was looking for an all in one machine. She hates technology, but she is finding this machine easy to use. It's great. Pretty intuative. Dubbing is easy. She loves to tape her tv shows on VCR and this machine does that plus tapes on DVD and it acts as a DVR. It's a great machine. She is now in the process of transfering all her home famliy videos to DVD. Some people are saying the remote is hard to read, it's not really and I for sure thought my grandma would think so but she doesn't have a problem reading it either. It's a great machine, a great brand and you will love it.
