If you are interested in working with senior citizens in a senior living facility, you probably know that the industry has a wide variety of facilities and positions to be filled. Senior living facility staffing positions exist at complexes that service seniors who range from fully independent to needing full time care. Senior apartments are typically set up as maintenance free living spaces for retirement age adults who live rich and active lives. They can offer activities and amenities for residents, but the individuals living in the apartment complex are completely free to pursue their interests, like traveling, golf, or other hobbies.

Assisted living homes cater to senior citizens who need some help but can still live fairly independently. Staff members at this type for senior living facility help with housekeeping tasks, laundry, meals, medication, and more, depending on the needs of each resident. Senior dementia care facilities are usually a form of assisted living care. However, they are specifically designed to help patients retain more memory, stay healthy and live life with less stress. Great memory loss centers also help facilitate the relationship between the resident and the family, which can flourish when the everyday care stress and frustration is removed.

The major qualification for working in the senior living facility industry is a caring attitude and a love for working with older people. Staff positions exist to make the resident experience the best it can be by serving them and encouraging them. This can be in a management capacity, in personal care, medical assistance, or service responsibilities. Every facility typically has a director who oversees the entire operation. The director is in charge of planning, budgeting, arranging schedules and activities, and motivating staff members. Management positions also include a medication manager. This person is responsible for the dispensing of medications, communicating with physicians and pharmacists, and keeping track of pharmaceuticals that are in the facility.

A senior living facility also has nurses, personal care aides, medication technicians, and service personnel. Great senior apartments, assisted living homes, and senior dementia care facilities will also have a person who serves as a liaison between the facility and the families of the residents. This person helps with the move in and adjustment process. In large organizations, there are also multiple management positions overseeing each division of the facility. No matter where you choose to apply, you can enrich the lives of senior citizens and help them live with dignity and respect.
