Blogging can be very lucrative if done correctly and there are lots of ways to make money. On the other hand, there are also lots of ways to waste much time and effort and not make much money. The following are 5 no-no's that will prevent you from having success making money blogging.
1. Don't "just sell" - You started a blog to make money right? Of course you did. So sell, sell, sell. Wrong! This is very common for beginner bloggers and it will be the death of your site. If the only thing you are going to do is sell then forget a blog and just open an online store. With a blog you are engaging in relationship marketing and relationships need to be established before you start trying to sell. If you are selling what they want, they will buy. If they feel like they know you and can trust you then they will buy from you. They will be less likely to "shop around" looking for a better deal. In order to make money
blogging
you need to offer your readers something of value - teach them something. They will respect and trust you and, therefore, not hesitate to buy from you.
2. You are not using original content - - If you are lazy and use other people's content it will cost you. You will not get any love from the search engines which means no quality traffic. You may think a good way to cut corners is to go for PLR (Private Label Rights). Your readers are not dumb. Content that is not personal and well written will turn them off. Trust me, they do read it. People are not going to buy stuff from a blog that has content that is of poor quality. If your content is poor quality then the readers will naturally assume that the products you are recommending are of poor quality as well. You will be viewed as someone who is just trying to make a buck. This is not going to help you make money blogging.
3. You don't make yourself open and receptive - This is a very important. Your readers want to know who they are listening to. They want to feel assured that you are competent and a "real" person. If your readers have the ability to contact you it is very comforting. It does no good to hide and be unavailable. Skype is a great communication tool that I have used very effectively. The reality is that few people will actually contact you but just the fact that they can is a big plus.
4. Inefficient layout - If your readers have difficulty navigating your site they will not stay for long. Your site layout will have a significant impact on your success. I like to have friends go to my sites and give me feedback. I can then make adjustments accordingly.
5. Your content is not in tune with your products - If you want to make money
blogging your visitors must be able to understand what it is you are trying to accomplish. If not, they will be gone and this is not what you want. Banners and text links are fine, but they must be related to the content. The content on your site is what leads your readers to click on your links. Without a strong correlation your sales will suffer big time.
