Walgreens Introduces Program to Replace EasySaver Rewards

When Walgreens cancelled its popular EasySaver Rewards program a while back, customers were disappointed with the decision. There were many Easy Saver complaints lodged, and months went by before the drug-store chain introduced a new savings program. Let's take a look at Walgreens' Register Rewards and compare it to the late, great EasySaver program:

Register Rewards come in the form of coupons that print with your receipt, but only if you purchased qualifying items. If you purchase multiples of a qualifying item, you have to ask the sales clerk to ring them up separately to receive each coupon you are owed. What a pain. Walgreens must receive many Easy Saver complaints regarding that inconvenience, from both customers and sales clerks alike. The EasySaver Rewards program delivered its rebate coupons through a monthly catalog available at the store or online. Purchase was not required just to get the savings opportunities. It was just easy to be an EasySaver.

Fans of the new Register Rewards program may say it actually proves easier, as it does not require the shoppers to gather their receipts once a month and mail them off to get the savings, as EasySaver did. While a valid point, let's look at the many benefits that came with doing a little extra work:

For each EasySaver Rewards rebate form shoppers sent in, they could receive a check. They could do this once a month, once a week, or however often they liked, either by hand or online. It didn't take long and was totally worth it to get cash back. Who would have Easy Saver complaints about a process that took just a few minutes? Walgreens also offered a bonus to those who received their EasySaver rebates in the form of a Walgreens gift card: an additional 10 percent on top of the monthly rebate amount.

While Walgreens offers other savings opportunities to complement the Register Rewards program, many shoppers continue to miss EasySaver Rewards and just don't see how, even when all the available Walgreens savings opportunities are taken advantage of, they haven't lost out in the switch. In addition, the Register Rewards program has many restrictions when it comes to qualifying items. Restrictions include prescriptions, tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, dairy products, transportation passes, special event/entertainment tickets or passes, postage stamps, gift cards, phone cards and health care services, including immunizations. Also, the Register Rewards coupon value cannot exceed the total purchase amount. Often times, shoppers were able to get items for free using the EasySaver Rewards program.

Odds are, former EasySaver participants will continue to lodge Easy Saver complaints until Walgreens reinstates the program or offers saving opportunities that equal it in value.
