There is a new site in the online blogsphere called Safetypin!
Safetypin is currently the only free online dating portal for the queer community and people interested in queer desis. The site is completely free and has two main options: A gay portion of the site and a lesbian portion of the site. The webmasters did something unique by choosing the name, their novel approach is incorporating the name into the url itself: http://www.Safetyp.in
The site offers a number of options including free online chatting and there is no charges at all to any of its customers. It also has free options to play games online, a classified section and even a number of forums.
Being a new entry into the online universe, it will be interesting to see how the gay lesbian and bisexual community from the Indian subcontinent will take to this site. However being a well desinged site and on top of that being a totally free option, it should do well. Plus, it is launching at a time when gay rights are at a fundamental point in Indian society, especially since homosexuality was decriminalized in India recently.
A quick browse of their website http://www.safetyp.in shows over a 100 people logged on to each site at any given moment. With more gay users logged on as opposed to lesbian. With a boom in the number of pride marches in India and numberous local gay, lesbian and transgender groups this should be a welcome entry!
