A Matter of Perspective:
Life Changing Situations
June 11, 2002
Dear Mom:
I think of you more and more each day. I am so happy that in just a few heavenly days we will be together again.
I thought you would like to know that Aunt Susan's passing has enabled some members of her family, a few friends and even a number of people she never knew to turn to God and will now all be entering heaven where they will spend eternity together.
All too often, life-changing beliefs can only occur through tragedies such as the slow dying of a person through the same ravenous cancer that ate away at Aunt Susan and I. No mom, we do not have a mean uncaring God. In fact He is just the opposite. It is just our perspective that makes Him appear bad at times.
During the times we think He is brutally attacking us, He is actually saving us. He is the type of father so full of love that he tells his children they cannot have any more candy because he knows they will get sick from eating too much. He is the type of father who tells his children they cannot swim in the lake without their life jackets even though they are uncomfortable. He is the type of father who makes his children miss a game because they did not finish their homework. He is the kind of father who sent His Son to die for our sins so that people who believe in Him can live with Him for eternity.
Mom, you know how stiff necked you are at times with God. If you, a Christian, can be that difficult some times, imagine how hard it is for God to get non-christians to turn their heads towards Him.
For now you will all miss Aunt Susan and me, but because of your loss you will not miss those whose eyes were opened because of our passing. Eternal life with God at the cost of the temporary loss of someone they love on earth is not such a high price to pay. Besides, I have been having a great time with Aunt Susan since her arrival. I can't imagine heaven without her!
Love Always
