subject: Dr. Alfonso Costa hosts 6th Annual Pittsburgh Carson Scholars Fund Charity Auction Event [print this page] The Pittsburgh Carson Scholars Fund has announced its 6th Annual Charity Auction and Cocktail Event, to be held Monday, December 7th from 6:00 10:00 pm at Bossa Nova in downtown Pittsburgh. Hosted by Dr. Alfonso Costa and Jerome Bettis, the highlight of the evening will include celebrity autograph signings with members of the Pittsburgh Steelers, including Jerome Bettis, Willie Parker, Deshea Townsend and many more. There will be a special guest appearance by co-founders of the Carson Scholars Fund: Dr. Benjamin and Candy Carson. In addition, the evening will feature a silent and live auction. Auction items will include a variety of sports memorabilia, luxury items, getaways, and more! All proceeds from the event benefit the Pittsburgh Carson Scholars Fund, which awards scholarships of $1,000 to students in grades 4-11 who have demonstrated academic excellence and dedication to the community. Last year, we were able to award scholarships to over 100 area students! The annual charity auction and cocktail event is the Pittsburgh chapters sole annual fundraiser. Carson Scholars, in addition to receiving a monetary award, are honored at an elegant banquet surrounded by friends and family. They receive an Olympicsized medal and an imposing certificate. Their schools are presented with a large inscribed trophy to put on display for the entire school to admire. Carson Scholars are not selected on the basis of need, although many scholars come from needy circumstances. When Carson Scholars are chosen they know that it is on the basis of their own personal achievement.
