In colder weather than 40 degrees the asphalt shingles often become brittle and crack very easy and this can become quite costly. When cold they also become much harder to cut, making the job go slower and can be wasted time. Weather over 85 degrees means that the roof's surface could be up to 100 degrees, which can make the shingle softer, meaning that it, can easily become scuffed or disfigured. This weakens the shingle and can diminish the life of the roof.
