The Frame
Our frames are made from 100% unplasticised polyvinylchloride better known as uPVC or, more simply, vinyl. The vinyl frame is welded together rather than mechanically fastened, making for a better quality window. More internal cells or chambers called vinyl extrusions create a more rigid frame, which is less likely to warp or distort so they last longer than other materials. Vinyl does not conduct heat, so it does not affect the temperature in your house in any season. Vinyl designs add greatly to the insulation value of a window. They are low-cost to manufacture and low-maintenance to keep. They never chip or fade so they never require sanding, painting, or staining.
The Glass
The glass panels are double or triple glazed, which means there are two or three panes of glass separated by a small space filled with argon gas, we'll come back to the benefits of argon in a minute. The panels are coated with a microscopic layer of a metal oxide, which is invisible to the human eye. Glass with this metal oxide coating is referred to as Low-E glass. This layer helps to reflect heat. Low-E stands for low-emissivity, which means that the glass reflects more heat than it emits. Low-E glass prevents heat from transferring between the indoors and outdoors, keeping your home warm in the wintertime and cool in the summertime. Low-E glass has an added benefit of preventing harmful ultraviolet or infrared rays from entering your home, which can harm skin, wood, and fabrics.
Argon Gas
Argon gas is superior for thermal insulation. It works because it has very low conductance so it does not absorb or transfer heat. It slows down convection and conduction of heat, meaning that cold air does not move through the window and does not radiate from the window. Argon is used because it is a colourless, odourless, non-flammable, non-reactive, inert gas so it is safe to use in your home. In addition, it is a very cost-efficient gas fill in comparison with its competitors and it acts as a soundproofing agent to keep unwanted noise from entering your home.
