Fat Loss Tips and Home remedies for Obesity and Fat Loss

Obesity or the accumulation of fat or excessive fleshiness as it has been termed is certainly a situation demanding immediate attention. Obesity has therefore a negative impact on life and of course on quality of life in both a physical as well as psychological context. Undoubtedly, overeating is held as a primary cause of obesity. Eating habit, eating more food than necessary and certainly consuming foods, which are high in calories, are said to be the reasons of obesity. Modern research shows that even the amount of times one eats in a day has the capability to influence obesity. Addressing obesity and treating obesity is therefore the need of the hour.

What causes obesity?

Obesity occurs when the body consumes more calories than it burns. In the past people thought obesity was simply due to over-eating and lack of exercise. However research has identified a number of other factors including genetics, race, age and behavioural and social issues. Even with all these other factors now identified, physicians still strongly believe that over consuming high calorie fatty foods and a lack on physical activity is the main cause.

Treatment of Obesity by Yogic Asanas: Shudhhikriyas: Kunjala, Vaman Dhauti/Danda Dhauti, Neti, Agnisara Kriya, Laghoo/Purna Shankhaprakshalana (Once a week / month), Kapalbhati and Baghi Kriya should also be practised. Even Shankha Prakshalana should be practised once a month for first three months.

Pranayama: Anuloma Viloma, Bhastrika Pranayama, Ujjayi, Suryabhedan (10 times or more rounds) along with Om Recitation about 10 times should be practised.

Asanas: Tadasana, Ardha-halasana, Sarvangasana, Vipritakarani, Vakrasana, Bhujangasana, Makarasana, Shalabhasana, Dhanurasana, Ardha-matsyendrasana, Yoga Mudra (in Vajrasana), Chakrasana (Side bending), Padahastasana, Naukasana (Prone & Supine), Shavasana, Katichakrasana, Pada Hastasana, Sarvangasana, Halasana, Bhujangasana, Dhanurasana, Pashchimottanasana, Matsyasana, Ardha-Matsyendrasana and Ushtrasana should also be practised along with Surya Namaskara.

Home remedies for obesity and Fat Loss

1. Fasting on lime juice-honey water is highly beneficial in the treatment of obesity. In this mode of treatment, one teaspoon of fresh honey should be mixed with the juice of half a lime in a glass of lukewarm water and taken at regular intervals.

2. Trifala, an herbal combination of amalaki, bibbitaki, and haritaki is good for losing weight.

3. The leaves of jujube or Indian plum are another valuable remedy for obesity. A handful of leaves should be soaked overnight in water and this water should be taken in the morning, preferably on an empty stumach. This treatment should be continued for at least one month to achieve beneficial results.

4. Cabbage is considered to be an excellent home remedy for obesity. Recent research has revealed that a valuable chemical called tartaric acid is present in this vegetable which inhibits the conversion of sugar and other carbohydrates into fat. Hence, it is of great value in weight reduction. Substituting a meal with cabbage salad would be the simplest way to stay slim.

5. One or two ripe tomatoes taken early morning as a substitute for breakfast, for a couple of months, are considered a safe method of weight reduction. They also supply the food elements essential to preserve health.

6. Finger millet is an ideal food for the obese, because its digestion is slow and due to this, the carbohydrates take a longer time to get absorbed. By eating preparations made of finger millet, the constant desire to eat is curbed, thus reducing the daily calorie intake. At the same time, finger millet supplies an abundant quantity of calcium, phosphorus, iron, Vitamin B1 and B2 and prevents malnutrition in spite of restricted food.
