Soybeans contain several compounds, including daidzein and genistein that are estrogenic. This helps to control hot flashes. Because the Japanese have a diet rich in soy, only 7% of Japanese women experience hot flashes during menopause. The soy product, tofu is especially great for mimicking the activity of female hormones.

Hot Flashes are probably the most common symptom associated with menopause. This symptom is believed to affect around 50% of peri-menopause and nearer to 75% of menopausal women. Hot flashes can be described as sudden feelings of extreme heat in the upper area of, or even the whole body and these can happen at completely different times of the day, regularity and severity in different women.

The second type of hot flashes is termed as 'slow' or 'ember' flashes. Ember flashes are the long lasting kind, sometimes persisting for as long as half an hour. Despite appearing just as quickly as a regular flash, an ember flash is less intense in comparison. Another difference is the non-seasonal nature of the ember flashes (regular flashes are stronger in the summer).

The treatment for hot flashes varies and there are so many products designed that help women to cope with the hormone changes they experience. There are special pajamas which are used to counterbalance night sweats. There are also special designed hormone replacement products that are used during hot flashes that make the change smoother.

Decreases in estrogen levels accompany a reduction in a woman's bone density. This decline actually starts well before menopause, especially in women with inadequate intakes of calcium and vitamin D during the crucial young adult years of bone formation. The loss of bone density is greatly accelerated during menopause, making women up to seven times more likely to fracture a bone than men, and putting them at risk of osteoporosis.

Another way to combat weight gain during menopause is by eating a healthy diet. I know what you're thinking and no, that does not mean you cannot treat yourself to good foods. You just need to make sure you include some ingredients such as protein, carbohydrates, and even fat. Not all fat is bad for you. There is such a thing as healthy fats and these include natural peanut butter, natural unsalted nuts, avocadoes and cold pressed olive oil.

Menopause and constipation are not the only events that a woman goes through as she moves closer to her menopausal age. Depressive disorders, sudden alterations in mood, inability to sleep at night, hypertension, warm flashes, pain in the head as well as the joints, drying up of the vaginal region are some of the other difficulties that she has to confront. However, all these issues can be looked after.
