subject: Scott Attempts Hat-trick Of Wins [print this page]

Australian Adam Scott will be attempting to complete a hat-trick of wins in the Commercialbank Qatar Masters when the tournament gets underway at Doha Golf Club on Thursday January 22.

Scott, the defending champion, has a 100 per cent record in the event having first won the tournament, which is presented by Dolphin Energy, on his debut seven years ago.

Scott, whose winning equipment last year included a Titleist 905R driver, a Titleist 906F4 fairway metal and a Titleist Scotty Cameron prototype putter, claimed a stunning victory 12 months ago with a final round 61- which equalled the lowest round of the 2008 season.

His round included eleven birdies, the most carded in a round last year and he also knocked two shots off the Doha course record.

Scott's final round was also the lowest by a winner since 1992 when Jamie Spence shot 60 to win the European Masters.

Scott, the World Number 14, limbered up for Doha having finished as tied runner-up in last weekend's Sony Open in Hawaii.

Whatever happens in Doha this weekend Scott intends to take a month off to give a long-standing knee injury the chance to recover in time for the Masters in April.

Scott suffered a recurrence of his knee problem while surfing last year which meant a frustrating second half of the season for him.

"I just have really hyper-mobile kneecaps and obviously I have to be quite careful," Scott said.

"The first time was in high school playing basketball and the problem is that there are six different surgeries they can do and a different doctor will recommend a different one. There's no foolproof fix for it.

"As long as it doesn't affect me playing golf I can get by. I don't really want to go in and have surgery and, like, change my leg if that could possibly change the way I play golf.

"So I'll try and last as long as I can without going under the knife. I haven't had a problem with surfing and that's something I love to do, but maybe I'll have to cut out things like skiing and tennis and anything that involves me running around."

Paul Casey, who won last weekend's Abu Dhabi Championship, will also be in Qatar along with his fellow European Ryder Cup team-Sergio Garcia, Sren Hansen, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Robert Karlsson, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Lee Westwood and Oliver Wilson.

Adam Scott, snatched the lead at 16 under with an eagle at the tenth, but Quiros and Oosthuizen - playing a group behind - responded with birdies of their own to leave all three tied through 11.
