Cheating spouses caught are often faced with the question as to what will the consequences be. Often though, they should have thought of this prior to committing their acts, but almost invariably they consider this after they are in the bag. But what kind of punishment should be doled out to these cheating spouses? Should it be strict or lenient?
One group tends to believe that tough standards need to be in place to prevent spouses from cheating in the first place. If they know that the consequences of breaking their marriage vows is going to be severe, then may be they won't even consider straying away from their marital promises. This group wants cheating spouses to know that if they are caught, the price will be so high to pay that they will virtually go bankrupt and non-existent and so not to ever even think of going that route.
The other group wants a more lenient approach when punishing cheating spouses. They are of the philosophy that to err is human and to forgive divine. They believe that husbands and wives may have committed acts of adultery due to an overwhelming sense of passion or a heated feeling of love towards a person outside their marriage and that they really do not mean to hurt their spouses intentionally. They would like to see nothing more than a slap on the wrist and a word of promise not to repeat such a thing in the future again.
Who is right and who is wrong? May be you can be the judge!
