Regardless of what grass type is chosen the soil needs to be good. By this it means that the Ph level and adequate nutrients need to be present in the right quantities. Grass need more than sun and water so the additional must come from the soil, or products that the lawn owner applies. Some grasses require more high nitrogen fertilizer, such as Bermuda. In fact, there are several types of grasses that need additional nutrients, in addition to the soil! Without those nutrients and extra's the grass can survive, however not its best look! Another tip of appropriate nutrition is to save the grass clippings and leave them on the lawn. As they decompose they actually put those nutrients back into the soil, therefore improving your lawn.

About Adding Nutrients

All grass types can be susceptible to disease and pests if not healthy or stressed by chemical burn, such as too much nitrogen from fertilizer. This can be avoided if the grass type is understood, instead of guessed! Fertilizer should be added in the fall or cooler weather, and it is advisable to use slow released so that it does not burn the grass!
