Cleaning Silver Jewelry

Silver jewelry is very valuable. But doesn't it feel bad when its value decreases just because the jewelry items are stained and not shiny. If you are facing this problem with your jewelry, you're not alone! A lot of methods are there to clean and polish silver jewelry items. Some of them are discussed here. And you won't believe it, they actually work!

1)

One of the ways to clean silver jewelry is the use of Aluminium. Chemically, Aluminium extracts off the stains over the silver item, leaving the item stain-free. This increases its shine. You can use an old Aluminium saucepan to clean your silver ornament. Heat water in it and add salt to it. After it gets warm, insert the silver jewelry item into the water. This will create a chemical reaction and the stains will get removed from every curve and split of the ornament. However, this will stain the sauce pan. So make sure you're using a sauce pan that is an old one.

2)

Another method of cleaning silver ornaments is using lemon juice. Take a clean cloth and dip it in pure lemon juice. Wipe off the silver jewelry ornament with this cloth. When the lemon juice touches the silver surface, it will start to clean the stains. Rubbing it gently will the tarnish off. If small curves and crevices cannot be cleaned by the big cloth, use a cotton bud dipped in lemon juice. After you are done cleaning, it's better to store the silver jewelry in an airtight plastic container.

3)

One more interesting home remedy of cleaning off tarnish from silver ornaments is, the use of tooth paste. You can take an ordinary tooth paste that you normally use. Coat the silver item with the tooth paste and wet the tooth brush. Under warm water, gently rub the silver surface with the tooth brush. You'll notice that the stains start to leave the silver surface. Be careful about one thing when rubbing the silver item. You have to be very gentle, because tooth brushes are generally made mildly abrasive. If you rub hard, you'll not only damage the jewelry item but also this might decrease the value of your item. After proper brushing you'll have to (you guessed it!) rinse it well. Now you can feel the difference on your silver jewelry. It becomes shiny just like your teeth after a proper brushing!

There are many products available in the market to clean silver jewelry. Silver sprays are a good choice. Some people prefer silver polish as well. Using these products, the silver items get a new look and become shiny. However, if the silver jewelry item has gemstones inserted in it, you must be careful of using the product. It is because these products may harm the gemstones in the jewelry. Resultantly, the silver will look shiny but the gemstones will not look good on the silver jewelry.

The methods discussed here are easy to apply at home. Have fun experiencing the cleaning of your jewelry and enjoy beautiful, clean and shiny ornaments for a long time!
