subject: Add Value To Your Home [print this page]

A great way to add value to your home is with beautiful, quality flooring throughout. It makes the home look better and it adds a lot of value to the home. There are so many types of flooring available and there are pros and cons for each kind. The type of flooring for an individual home will depend on the style and the budget that the homeowner has.

The function and frequency that a room is used can also be a factor. I would hesitate to put real wood flooring in a bathroom or a laundry room for example. These two room deal with a lot of moisture and I find tile works better. For the budget conscious there are a few choices. Laminate flooring and linoleum are two popular choices. I tend to stay away from linoleum. I know that it was popular in the past because of its cost and easy installation, but for the money

I think it best serves the homeowner in the long run to spend more on the project and skip linoleum all together. Laminate flooring is a better choice, at least the look of it is a little higher quality and it can look really nice. Then again, if you purchase a high quality laminate it will cost you nearly as much or sometimes more than real wood. What laminate does do well is in its maintenance. It cleans very easy and is very low maintenance. That is one of the things that make it so popular.

Tile is another option. Tile has traditionally been used in bathrooms and kitchens. Some people love the look of tile and prefer to do the entire floor surface of their home with it. The great thing about tile is that if it is done well and the grout is sealed well, it is virtually maintenance free. It is easy to clean and easy to care for. Tile works great and can be affordable and economic all the way to exotic and very expensive.

The last real option is carpet. Again, like everything else in life, you get what you pay for. You can go cheap and have to replace after a couple years, or you can get quality carpet and it lasts many, many years. It all comes down to personal taste and budget. There are many styles and textures that anyone can pick something they love. Carpet is a little higher maintenance and is a little harder to keep clean.
