The 3 Things You Need to Do to Get Whatever You Want in Life

"We don't know what we want and yet we are responsible for what we are." - Jean-Paul Sartre

Isn't that the purpose of our life? What we all get up for everyday? To figure out what we are and what we want to be? To reach our goals? To work towards the things we want in life? As quickly as possible? As easy as possible? But we all know it's not that easy, right? There's no short cuts to getting more from our life, faster and easier...or is it?

I've broken down life's path of stumbles, fumbles, confusion and merry - go - round pursuits into 3 very simple but, highly effective and efficient steps so you can take advantage of all life has to offer sooner. So relax, grab a seat and take it all in beginning with Step 1:

Step 1: Read, Research and Retain

The first step to getting what you want is to first read about. See what's involved. See how to approach it and see what's necessary for you to get it. I studied Spanish for a few years now and worked as an intern for Bad Boy Entertainment even longer ago and I knew I wanted to combine both these elements in a career someway, somehow. I thought about several options I could pursue, combining my love for Spanish while at the same time being in the industry but, not so much, "in the industry." And voila! I thought a Bilingual voice over artist! It sounded interesting, creative and intriguing so, why not try my hand.

Now I knew nothing about my career choice, nothing about how to get there, what skills were needed just that it was entertainment and it was Spanish. So I headed towards Google and typed the term "Spanish voice over." My search gave me a myriad of some good and not so good information, so I decided to head to Borders to further streamline my search.

I had the staff direct me to the "voice over books" and came across 3 books, which ended up being 3 of the most popular voice over books in the voice over industry. I read and read, I cross - referenced the information, I looked at the table of contents, I looked at the index and then back again at the table of contents to see what other resources I could come across and quickly began to form an idea of the skills that I needed.

Step 2: Emulate and Imitate

Reading and researching were great - essential - tools but they didn't give me and may not give you a tangible idea of what's involved. I wanted to know what it was like to be behind the microphone, how much money I would make, how intensive the training was, what aspects of the industry did professionals enjoy, what aspects they didn't and how they tied it all together and made success happen. No book I found gave me all that information that concisely so, I had to turn to the people who had done it and did what they did.

And so too, should be your next step - to emulate the habits of those who are successful and in the areas of where you want to be. There's no need to reinvent the wheel. Life is just a bunch of recycled ideas anyway, right? And the whole point of this article is to get you whatever you want - albeit, goals, career, aspirations and dreams - WHATEVER you want - faster and more efficiently.

Look to those who have already laid the foundation and emulate the things that have worked for them and tweak the things that haven't. And in the process you'll begin to develop patterns that are applicable to your own situation based on what others have done.

How can you find out exactly what others have done so you can emulate them?

Network and Talk to People

People are generally open to talk about their lives and about their careers and how they got to where they are. These are the people you should seek out. Ask questions. Ask for mentoring. Ask for guidance. Ask for suggestions. Ask for advice. Pick their brain and just ask!

Head to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Other Forms of Social Media

Unfortunately, not everybody is open to giving advice. Some people can be quite guarded, evasive and just don't want to share the things they've learned. Maybe they think you're in the business of using them, your interests are not sincere, you're not serious or maybe they want to make you work for it because it didn't come easy for them. Forget those people!

Others may just be too busy and not available for you to connect with. So now, what do you do? Here's where I say turn your focus to major social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Now, now, before you go rolling your eyes, let's really sit and think about the benefits of such resources.

Going back to my pursuit as a voice over artist, to really know what was involved as a voice over artist, I had to reach out the biggest and brightest names. After all, I wanted to know what they did and what they should've done to get to where they were. I wanted to know so I didn't have to spin my wheels and I wanted to know so I could make my trajectory easier. However, I couldn't just call 'em up and say, "Hey, here I am! I want to be a voice over artist! Can you nurture me throughout my pursuit?" Ummmm, Nah. So, I turned to Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter - the next best things to direct contact.

Going into detail about the workings of these three social media sites is a bit exhaustive here but you're more than welcome to contact me directly where I can explain these sites in further detail but, the one thing you should understand about these sites is that they're NOT about stalking, NOT about just being a follower, NOT about being a nuisance and are MORE about marketing yourself, MORE about branding yourself, MORE about establishing STRATEGIC connections and MORE about building quality relationships with the biggest and brightest thinkers that you otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to do.

Step 3: Practice, Perfect and Persevere

So now that you've established some all important relationships and you've found out through them what's involved, you can now move on to your last step: putting into practice what you've learned. I am at the stage now where I've researched (and continue to), I've connected (and continue to) and now I'm putting into practice and perfecting what I've learned and persevering when things don't work out (and will c
