DIGITAL CAMERA RAW IMAGE PROCESSING

DIGITAL HAS NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD

Most of the high-end digital cinema cameras in use today, including ARRI, RED, and Phantom, use a single chip sensor to capture full color images. To create RGB data from a single sensor a bayer mosaic filter is placed over the chip so that each pixel only captures one color, red, green, or blue. Because humans see more detail in green than the other two colors there are two green pixels for every red or blue one in a bayer mosaic. In order to reconstruct a full resolution image it is necessary to use a debayer conversion algorithm. The quality of the resulting image is directly related to the method used for the conversion from a single channel color mosaic (raw) image to a three channel full color image.

POINT 360's IVC DIGITAL FILM CENTER has developed a new proprietary algorithm, which we call Visionary, offering significant advantages over other debayer processes:

Visionary reconstructs high resolution bayer chip images that are sharper than other processes - and free of artifacts.

Visionary reconstructs all color channels (not just green) at full resolution.

It properly reproduces colors that are often desaturated by other software methods.

Visionary can correct for lens aberrations during the reconstruction to improve the sharpness and contrast of the image.

When combined with our new proprietary A.R.T. noise reduction, images that would have been marginal to unusable due to low light or other issues can be seamlessly integrated with the rest of the project.

Raw footage when Visionary processed is cleaner and sharper with more color accuracy, and will respond better to color correction, visual effects, scaling, and all other facets of postproduction.
