Are Your Driving Habits Cop Magnets?
Are Your Driving Habits Cop Magnets?

Bad driving habits will eventually take their toll on every driver. The bad habit driver will attract the attention of law enforcement that will extract money from the driver in the form of traffic ticket fines. Then consider the additional costs of insurance premiums and possibly the dealing with the auto body guys if habits send things sideways and into the ditches. It makes common sense to avoid being a cop magnet at all costs. These bad habit breaking strategies come from an officer that has written thousands of tickets to good drivers who has simply adopted bad driving habits. This is your opportunity to neutralize any magnetic Law of Attraction that you may be sending out by flying under the radar of police around you.

1.Dont stand out from the crowd. Do not make sudden lane changes, rapid accelerations and decelerations. Do not flash lights at other motorists or honk the horn or make hand gestures. Make certain that your car has all of its lights working and that there is nothing attached to the car that would draw interest to your vehicle. Drive a clean car. Do not drive in the fast lane.

2.Obey all the laws of the road. Drive the speed limit, give yourself the proper amount of time to reach your destination, signal all lane changes and turns, stop at all stop signs and red lights. Going with the flow of traffic may be a sure sign that you are exceeding the speed limit.

3.Drive like there was a traffic cop sitting next to you with the adding machine racking up the dollar signs like a score counter on a video game. You may not see the police until it is too late!

4.Be on the Look out! Watch for motorcycle cops, plain jane cruisers, officers hiding behind anything that would hide them and watch out for them sneaking up in your rear view mirror. Look for patrols far ahead of where you are. Look for speed zone and school zone signage.

5.Know and follow the local laws that will be enforced. Speed limits, parking restrictions, window tinting and other regulations may surprise and cost you.

6.Look for brake lights on vehicles in front of you and then slow down, and look for vehicles that may flash their high beams when they come towards you.

7.Where legal, a radar / laser detector may save you from some tickets but be aware that police may use strategies that may render these devices to be less effective than desired.

How many of us have felt the sense of panic when we knew we had been speeding and all of a sudden we are looking in our mirrors hoping that the police car does not make that u-turn and come after us? With traffic tickets fines exceeding several hundreds of dollars, many drivers would find it a good practice to change up what they are habitually doing while behind the wheel and make sure they take responsibility for their own safety and financial well being. If you have ever felt that sense of panic, what are you doing to avoid that next time when you find yourself looking back?

So, change a habit, change your life!
