Nowadays there are a lot of people who love dancing in Britain. There is also a growing number of those who want to make dancing their profession. Consequently, there are a lot of dance schools offering lessons to people of all ages. However, not all of these schools offer high-quality courses. It is hard to choose the right lessons; nevertheless, it is always possible to check one's level of dancing using various examinations. One of the most famous places for checking dance skills is the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Before taking part in these examinations it is very advisable to get high-quality ISTD regulation uniforms, as they are approved by the eminent instructors of the Society.

Today there are five kinds of examinations regulated by the ISTD which are designed for performers with different skills starting from beginners and amateurs to advanced professionals. Those are grade exams, class exams, medal tests, vocational grades and professional examinations. Each examination is individual. Accordingly, tests are structured for a range of dances for which appropriate ISTD regulation uniforms are needed.

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing includes a number of different faculties which govern examinations for respective dances. Some of the original faculties created at the very beginning of ISTD's history are Imperial Classic Ballet and Cecchetti Society Classical Ballet, however other faculties like Disco/Freestyle/Rock'n'roll and Alternative Rhytms were created as late as in 1999. Every faculty sets its own standard of ISTD regulation uniforms suitable for various types of dancing.

One of the most eminent faculties of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing is Classical Greek Dance Association. Founded as an independent organisation, it became part of the ISTD in 1951. The association has a very important mission as it helps keeping up the interest to one of the most ancient forms of dance. As part of this it holds graded tests for children and examinations for students and teachers. The organisation is also involved in watching over the standards of the ISTD regulation uniforms and rules of wearing them.

Imperial Classical ballet is another integral part of the ISTD. Founded over 50 years ago, it sets up promoting the English school of ballet as its main goal. The faculty holds ten class examinations for children ranging from pre-primary level to Higher Standard 8 according to one's experience in ballet. There are also seven grade exams which require performing various sets of dances appropriate for every level of skills. The faculty also examines more experienced owners of ISTD regulation uniforms.

One of the most exotic faculties in the ISTD is the faculty of South Asian dance. Dances like Bharatanatyam and Kathak may be not well-known to most people; nevertheless, they have a number of fans. Just like in cases with more classical dances, the ISTD sets various examinations for these exotic dances. The South Asian faculty also creates many activities such as workshops and celebrations to promote these unusual dances in the United Kingdom.

All in all, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing remains one of the most eminent dance examination boards in the world. Its talented teachers and choreographers are well-known and the results of its tests are accepted in many theatres and dance studios.
