Why would you put wood floors in Frisco homes if there are so many other quality, cheaper alternatives out there? You could go with carpet; it is softer and comes in a wide variety of styles and colors. Laminates are another option. These types of floors offer the look of pretty much anything at as low as 10 cents a square foot. You could always go with tile, and it is possible to find cheap tile that looks great. With all these alternatives, why are you going to install hard wood floors? Let us take a look at the advantages of wood over the competition.

Carpet vs. Wood

Carpet is nice, soft and come in a variety of colors. Wood is pretty, but it is hard and you are limited to the look of wood, no matter what color your stain it. Seems like a done deal? Think about this: Carpet traps dirt, pet hair and other debris beneath it as it works its way in. No matter how much you vacuum, shampoo or steam clean your carpets, you will always find a layer of nastiness below it. Carpet is also a breeding ground for common allergens such as dust mites, parasites and fungi. Wood is none of these things, and when you eventually peel up the wood to replace it, you will find no layer of dirt below it. Carpet will fade and look dingy after just a few short years wood will retain its beauty for decades, sometimes more than a century, if cared for properly.

Laminate vs. Wood

Laminates are cheap, easy to install and give the appearance of just about anything you would like. You can get them for as low as 10 cents per square foot and installation can be as simple as applying a sticker. Dirt would not get below it, and cleaning is as easy as sweeping. Sounds great, right?

You get what you pay for in anything, and that includes flooring. Laminates can easily peel away from the floor they are stuck to, especially if they are mopped regularly. The water and chemicals will compromise the glue and pretty soon, you are looking at peeling corner. Certain chemicals commonly used for cleaning can also eat away at the laminate, leaving it looking dingy and dirty. Wood lasts much longer and will retain its beauty much longer.

Tile vs. Wood

Tile is a beautiful flooring material. Really, wood and tile are tied for beautiful, long lasting flooring. The advantage of wood comes in at price, usually, as tile can get very expensive very quickly. Occasionally, you will find an amazing price on tile that seems like it cannot be passed up. Usually, that amazing price means that the tile is no longer being made; so any repairs will be hard to do, if you can even find the tile at all. Whereas companies may cease manufacturing certain tiles, you can rest assured that trees will continue to grow for as long as there is a planet earth to sustain them.

Now that you have seen a quick comparison, you know why it makes sense to install wood floors in Frisco homes.
