subject: How Do Cod Shipments Work? [print this page]

Many people receive shipments on a daily basis, whether personal or business related. Although receiving shipments is a common practice, not many people know about COD. Payment is required at time of delivery for COD shipments; COD stands for cash on delivery. If you received a shipment through a New Jersey courier service and the packaged is labeled COD, that means that the shipping has not been paid for as of yet. Using COD, shipping is beneficial if you do not have the money available when ordering a product. This can be beneficial to the person that sends or package or the person that is receiving the delivery as well. Because COD shipping is not used often, many people are confused on how it works.

You have the legal right to refuse COD shipments. Refusing a COD shipment can prevent the receiver from having to pay for items that they did not order. It is also beneficial when companies try to send you unauthorized packages that you would otherwise be responsible for. It is important to make sure you have authorized a shipment before paying on a COD shipment. Remember that you have the right to refuse an unauthorized COD shipment.

When a seller or sender chooses to send a COD shipment, they are putting trust into the recipient. They are relying on the recipient to pay for this shipment at the time of delivery. This is beneficial to the recipient because they do not have to provide their credit card information to the company or seller that made the shipment. COD is also beneficial because you get a chance to see what you are getting before having to pay for it. For example if you receive the incorrect shipment, you have the ability to refuse the COD.

You will have to confirm with your New Jersey courier service if they offer COD shipments. Some couriers do not offer this service, so calling ahead is best. In situations which COD shipments are not available, you will be required to pay for your merchandise up front, before it will be shipped to your destination. You will also be responsible for shipping costs if your recipient decides to refuse your shipment. The shipment will be returned to the original location and at your expense. Of course, these instances are rare but as long as you and your recipient are in agreement with what is being sent, you should not have any worries.
