Ignition Cylinder What to do if it Creates Fuss!

The ignition lock system is a wonderful invention of this era and it is meant for different useful functions in a vehicle. Besides providing extra-safety to the car, the ignition system is used to operate various parts of a vehicle. The whole system is comprised of many parts which include ignition cylinder as well. In order to have effective functioning, it is necessary to have all the parts in proper functioning status. Sometimes, the ignition cylinder traps and it creates a lot of problems. In order to tackle these problems and to avoid the hassle, it is better to know what type of problems could happen in an ignition cylinder and how these problems could be fixed.

If the car does not start and the ignition switch would not be able to perform functions properly, then certainly it could be due to the problems of ignition cylinder. At that moment it would be better to either check the cylinder for its performance or change it promptly. By virtue of the replacement of ignition cylinder the normal functioning of the car restores. There is a small part inside, which is called as tumbler. This tumbler with the passage of time wears and gets trapped. This is the main reason of malfunctioning of the ignition cylinder. This problem should be tackled promptly since in many of the vehicles the cylinder could only be taken out when the ignition switch is turned to "on" position. If the switch will not work properly then it would become impossible to remove the cylinder.

In order to change the cylinder, it is necessary to disconnect the earth wires of the battery so that the accidental air bag misplacement would be minimized. The horn pad should be removed after 15 minutes so that the capacitor could discharge and put off the whole system. The horn pad should be removed by moving out the screws and then the connection of horn with the yellow air bag connector should be dislodged. After removal of the horn pad, the steering should be taken out by removing the nuts. After that, the lock plate should be separated which is found behind the steering wheel. The lock plate can be removed with the help of lock plate tools.

The next step is to remove the white plastic turn-signal cam which is found behind the lock plate. Once these things are removed the screws of lock cylinder will be exposed. After opening the screws of the cylinder, it would come out easily. If the cylinder has to be replaced, then it should be placed at the same position. All the steps will be repeated in the reverse direction thereafter in order to get new cylinder installed in the ignition system.
