Obesity might be causing deaths but all these yo yo extreme diets are making it worse. What is obesity, basically when your body has to much fat on it. You could be overweight but not obese. Remember muscle weights more than fat. It's the fat we don't want. I have been battling with my weight and especially my fat problem. I am not alone. Millions world-wide suffer from this problem. My biggest difficulty was my problem seemed unique to everyone else's. I would see my friends dropping the pounds on these funky new diets. None of them worked for me long term. I would drop some weight literally starving myself. Then gain it all when I went backing to eating normally.
My weight would yo yo up and down as I would join the bandwagon for the next diet fad. I tried the, Atkins diet, the Grapefruit diet, Rotation diet, Cabbage Soup diet, the Beverly Hills diet, Breatharian, Ornish Plan South Beach Diet, and the list goes on for quite some time. Most of the time I would feel terrible. But some of these diets seemed to work for my friends. They would look great. I would look gigantic and felt terrible. My answer, eat more comfort food. This being the wrong answer of course.
My doctor told me this sledge hammer approach to my weight was not the answer. It was in fact worsening my fat problem. I would lose muscle mass starving myself silly trying all these diets. My body would react by turning my muscle into fat. Then when I went on my face stuffing binges I would end up with more fat and less muscle. The exact opposite of what I was trying to achieve.
Of course a more sensible approach was required. Weight loss, genuine weight loss, the weight that you lose and goes away forever, is a long slow process. It takes work, dedication and a big commitment. Only when I was ready to change my whole life style. Not just what was going in my mouth. I managed to take off the pounds but slowly and surely this time round. Remember slow and steady wins the race. I eat a well balanced diet with regular exercise. Sounds so simple but it works.
