Immigration Reform And What The Politicans Don't Say

American Citizens were able to hear President Obama speak about Immigration Reform today. During his televised speech, he spoke about how this country was built by immigrants and how their gifts, hard work, sacrifice helped build this country. He also spoke about they were discriminated against. It was a a nice history lesson.

He spoke on how porous our borders have been over past decades and how this has not changed. He spoke about immigrant labors work under the table, how they work for less then minimum wage, how they don't report crimes out of fear of deportation. None of this is new information, most American already know this. It happens in New York, New Jersey, Arizona, California, in every state across this land.

Immigration Reform is desperately needed for this country. That being said, we must realize that this is a multiple prong problem. To truly accomplish true reform, politicians and the current Presidential Administration has to look at welfare, social security, business practices across the border, health care, and education.

The current Welfare System has created generations of citizens who feel it is beneath them to do any form of manual labor. Why should they get their hands dirty when the government will just send them a check? The current system has created a "poor pitiful me" syndrome that continues to be promoted by the government and by different members of society. If the color of your skin is "wrong", if you got pregnant when you were an adolescent, if you chose to drink and do drugs, if you never took responsibility for your actions, then you deserve a check from the government.

There is an old saying, "Pride goeth before a fall." If you are too proud to get your hands dirty, why aren't you too proud to take a check from the government for doing nothing? If the government on both the state and federal levels would encourage welfare recipient to work or go to school, then they could reduce the welfare rolls. If political and religious leaders would encourage welfare recipient to work or go to school instead of encouraging this, "you're owed" mentality, there would be a positive change in this country. Welfare should have a maximum about of time that a person can collect. An individual can be trained in a trade in about 2 years oryou can receive an Associated Degree in 2 years.Wouldn't taxpayer money be better spent on training and education then continuation of the same, old broken system. Why not promote Coop Programs, where citizens in the same area help each other out with day care, baby sitting, tutoring, meal preparation and the like. It's how we build better communities, better understanding and a stronger country.

This so called "Global Economy" has done nothing but destroy this country. When businesses where allowed to close factories and textile mills and move production to other countries to increase their profits, they helped destroy our country's economy. Why pay an American worker a decent wage when they can pay pennies on a dollar in a foreign country? This is Big Business at it's finest. America has become a nation of consumers, our steel mills, our textile mills, our automobile factories have all left this country or will be leaving. Politician don't want to talk about how they have contributed to this, they want talk about how much money they received from Special Interest Groups, it's all hush hush.

Health care in this country has been hard hit by illegal immigrants. Emergency Rooms are a daily basis care for persons who have entered this country illegally. They receive the same care as everyone else, but then the hospital and ultimately the American Taxpayer is left with the bill. When an illegal immigrant has to admitted into the ICU, nurses and doctors don't ask about money, they care for them, regardless.

President Obama, spoke about the migrant farm worker, and yes they can be very hard workers. But, think about this, if we had less welfare, maybe more Americans would be willing to get off their butts and work in the fields like past generation did. There is nothing like hard work to build character, and the American Character is sadly lacking in today's society. Too many Americans are standing with their hands held out for that government check.

Education is taking a hard hit, from elementary school, all the way through the secondary education system. Why should FAFSA ask for your ethnic background? Should American born citizen get the first crack at college before those from other countries? Shouldn't financial aid be available for all students without bias of ethnicity?

Immigration Reform is definitely needed, but to think that it can be accomplished without reform in health care, labor, business and definitely welfare is unrealistic. To reform immigration, politician will need to have a broad outlook and be willing to fight and uphill battle. Religious and social leaders will decry any and all changes to welfare. So our leaders will have be be strong of character and strong willed. The necessary changes will have to be bipartisan and Americans will have to look to past generations to learn about strength of character.
