In the offseason, Lex Luger walked into WCW in Florida and trained with Hiro Masuda. Six months later the wrestler was in the ring and eventually became Southern Heavyweight Champion. Not too long after, the ring warrior was thrust into the spotlight and found himself working with the biggest superstars in the sports entertainment industry. Lugar had the opportunity to work with Ric Flair and the four Horsemen. After capturing the United States Championship and then the World Championship, Lugar left the WCW and pursued the World Bodybuilding Federation. Once his career as a bodybuilder ended, he entered the WWE and was introduced as "The Narcissist." During this time, WWE fans got a chance to enjoy the "Lex Express Tour."

The WWE star gave a lot of credit to the WWE and its chairman Vince McMahon for making that tour possible. On July 4, 1993, Lugar remembered a special moment from that tour. In New York City, the Narcissist recalled seeing Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji eating rice and rubbing it in people's faces because nobody could slam them.

Then down came Luger in a helicopter and he slammed Yokozuna after he leaped off a chain. The wrestler said that moment was the biggest highlight of his career. In September 1995, the former bodybuilder decided to return to the WCW. He participated on Monday Night Wars, which was another highlight of his career. The WWE would emerge victorious in the Monday Night Wars, buying out WCW in 2001.

The Narcissist's career ended soon after the WWE took over the WCW, and a dark time began in his personal life. The former WWE star had legal problems and was incarcerated. Lugar stated that he made a lot of bad decisions in his life. He devoted himself to God and began trying to help others in need. Unfortunately, Lugar would face one of his toughest setbacks in his life. The retired wrestler injured his neck on an airplane from Atlanta to San Francisco. He turned his neck awkwardly and it cut off the blood flow. Lugar called the injury a "freak accident," but it caused massive swelling in his C6 vertebra (base of the neck) to his D5 (chest). The injury paralyzed him from the neck down.

The incident was tragic and the prognosis bleak, but the former grappler did not lose faith. He worked incredibly hard to overcome his debilitating condition, surpassing what many believed he'd ever be able to recuperate. The Narcissist remained in a hospital in Stanford, Calif., where doctors ran numerous tests on his heart and brain.

What were the results? The doctors told him he was a healthy 49 year-old who would be paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of his life. The middle aged man made a miraculous recovery and lives on his own. Although nobody knows if the one-time wrestler will make a 100 percent recovery, he's gotten better and can walk on his own. Today, the former "total package" uses his life experiences in an effort to help others.
