People seem to be skimping on their Home Insurance across the country this year, but a recent news story brings home the importance of having these policies in place to secure you and your family.
A gas explosion in Nottingham recently caused great distress, not to mention serious damage, when it destroyed part of a house.
Fire crews were called to the house in Stockhill Lane after a witness reported to the emergency services that they had heard a sound, not unlike that of a bomb going off, in the vicinity.
The blast was so immense that it blew a window frame clean of the house and into the road, and blew other rubble into a nearby park. The rear of the house collapsed completely, and the roof was badly damaged,
Fortunately there were no fatalities in the accident last week, but two adults are being treated in the nearby hospital for multiple injuries and burns, while two children, sisters aged ten and thirteen, escaped with cuts and bruises to the face and body.
The Health and Safety Executive recommends that homeowners arrange regular maintenance on all gas appliances, including an annual safety check, and offers advice that if you suspect a gas leak then you should call the National Grid's emergency hotline, and open windows and doors in the meantime, to let fresh air in. It is also really important that you have a good Home Insurance policy, for the unfortunate incident where something unexpected happens to your house. Without it, you could be looking at hundreds of thousands of pounds to correct the damage and replace your possessions. The monthly premium really doesn't seem that bad in comparison, does it?
