Austria's fourth largest city, Salzburg, is located near the German border. Its historic Old Town was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, making the city a popular tourist destination. Some parts of the city were destroyed in World War II, however most of the Baroque architecture remained untouched.

Getriedegasse is Salzburg's most famous street. It is a shopping mecca in the Old Town which runs parallel with the Salzach River. Along this cobbled street you will find markets offering fresh produce, boutiques, cafs, bookstores and so much more! The beautiful old buildings still have wrought iron signs hanging above the doorways, advertising the business inside and some even show the date in which it was built under the eaves. And, Number 9 Getriedegasse is birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the home where he lived until he was 17 years old.

In 1965, the musical The Sound of Music starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer was based on the lives of the Von Trapp family in Salzburg at the start of World War II. One of the most popular sightseeing tours in Austria (Called Follow Maria's Footsteps) allows you to relive the story of this famous family. During the first half of this tour you will be taken through the Old Town and by film locations such as the Leopoldskron Palace, the church of Mondsee and the Palace of Hellbrunn. During the second half of the tour, you will be taken to the salt mines and on a short boat trip across an underground lake. The tour can be done in one day, or split into two if you prefer.

Much more awaits you when you take a trip to Salzburg! Come learn about its history and see the beauty of the town and surrounding landscapes for yourself.
