Pattern in the Home

Pattern is a great addition in a home to really make a statement and make a space yours. But ts so easy to get wrong, and therefore people are often scared to make a statement. When decorating a room, the best and most tried and tested idea is to stick to three colours maximum. If you start adding more colours in the room gets busy and confusing. Don't forget though that within these colours there are lots of different tones, so when you are done your room should have a gorgeous layered look, adding depth and texture.

Regardless of the colour scheme, make sure that the pattern scales are fairly similar. Don't team a small print with a really large print, and go for plain flooring otherwise the surfaces will be competing. Don't go for sets, so if there is a scheme in the shop, try to avoid it and do it yourself. Matching sets can look contrived and fussy.

If you want something a little less statement, then try picking out pattern in one place. a thin wall with a shimmery, light wallpaper and a similar chair can make a room look beautiful without taking too much work and making a massive impact. Textures can be just as important as patterns, so think about a throw on the sofa or a new rug.

If you are planning on making any major changes to your property, make sure that you check it is covered by your Home Insurance, or buy it online.
