Birth control pills are like a virus in your computer, it
screws up the whole system with one false sequence of
information.
-Dr. Erika, The Case Against Birth Control Pills
It seems like today, Doctors are handing out birth control like candy without a second thought to the potential harm these artificial hormones have on our bodies. Unfortunately, I would bet that the majority of Doctors who distribute these small discs of pills have no idea or education on their effects, other than that they seem to prevent most pregnancies and can regulate a womans menstrual cycle. However, there is MUCH more to the picture, and I would like to help educate others about the truth of birth control pills.
I personally believe that my history of being on birth control pills for 4 years contributed to many of my illnesses including forcing me to have my gall bladder removed. I have a ridiculously healthy diet, and I cannot think of another reason that I would have gall bladder issues other than birth control pills. I also struggled with yeast overgrowth and intestinal infections as a result of these little pills. It has thrown everything out of whack, every hormonal system from the brain to the butt, it can mess you up. Please think twice before taking that little pill again and get educated about what you are putting in your body.
How the Pill Works
Typically, your body ovulates once a month, ripening a new egg that will then journey down a fallopian tube. Eventually it reaches the uterus, where it would implant, if fertilized.
If not fertilized by a sperm, then the lining of the uterus that had built up in preparation for the fertilized egg is unnecessary. Both egg and uterine lining leave your body, cleansing your system and preparing for a new month.
When you take birth control pills, you impose synthetic hormones on your natural cycle.
Many birth control pills containhigh levels of estrogenthat effectively convince your pituitary gland that you are pregnant (this explains some of the side effects of the drugs) and that you don't need to ovulate. Because your body thinks you are pregnant, the uterine lining thickens. Once you start the placebo pills, however, your estrogen level drops suddenly, and your body menstruates "normally."
This abnormal cycle is what millions of women experience every month, and yet few doctors discuss the consequences of taking these prescriptions for year after year.
