If you ask the question who needs tactical lights, the right answer would be that pretty much everyone needs it. However, for some categories of people, tactical lights are not just performance enhancers, but subsistence arteries without which they have no survival.

Topping this list of people who cannot survive without the right type of tactical lights are the police. Their entire career life is dedicated to searching for evidence, identifying culprits, exploring difficult terrains, attacking or killing when necessary, and wading through gore, mire, and muck. Highly evolved tactical lights with varied functionalities are their lifelines for survival in the difficult jobs that they are ordained to do.

Because of the type of terrain and atmosphere that police have to work in, police tactical lights are always made to be shock proof, and waterproof. And police lights may incorporate anything like a camera, camcorder, audio recorder, metal detector, or a shotgun. Some of the tactical lights come only with limited features while some will have the facility to be operated as so many different things by simply switching modes.

Army men, whose duties have a lot of similarities with that of policemen, also use tactical lights that have functionalities very similar to that of the police. For them, heavy lights with specialized features might even double as a weapon of self-defense during an emergency. Some tactical lights will have the ability to produce psychedelic colors that can confuse the enemy, while other models will have laser-aiming capabilities.

All categories of trekkers need tactical lights, whether they are army personnel, police, or mountaineering enthusiasts. Powerful flash lights that can pierce through fog and mist, lights that can be shaken into activity and do not need rechargeable batteries, lights that can be mounted on rifles and shotguns, and lights with color filters to change light colors, are among the many types of tactical lights that come in handy for trekkers.

Tactical lights designed for trekkers are essentially weather proof and shock proof. They come with the provision to be strapped to the user's body or to any part of his performance gear so that both his arms are left free to do the job of climbing or exploring. The operating mechanisms of many of the tactical lights are ultra smooth and designed to be operated without removing tactical gloves.

Hunters are another group of people who need tactical lights of various functionalities. They need it to spot game in the darkness and need it without letting the animal see them. Night vision lights are available for hunters. Tactical lights designed for hunters will also have light control facilities that can be used to view the animal in very dim light or even to confuse the animal temporarily with the brightness of the light. Rescue workers also need tactical lights and they may variously use the lights used in trekking, or hunting, or in sailing, depending upon the area in which they are working.
