The Origin of the Printing Press
The Origin of the Printing Press

The printing press has been around for hundreds of years and it has been such a critical part of the development of the modern world. Without it, the exchange of ideas would not be as quick as it had been during its inception and creation. Since long ago, man has tried to create ways to mass produce the written word and there is much evidence of this and they can be found in museums all over the world. The oldest culture in the world, the Sumerians used clay tablets to store their writings and they baked them after writing their text and hieroglyphs on the wet clay. There are thousands of these clay tablets holding different types of records and even their daily existence was also recorded.

Modern designs

These days, we rely on more modern machinery and printing right now is as common as the ever. The advent of desktop printing with desktop computers and printers has changed the printing industry forever. Nowadays, people can just print a document out on demand and not have to worry about making a trip to the local printer. Nowadays convenience is the name of the game and you can find printers everywhere, in offices, homes and even cars. There is no end to the practical applications of desktop printing. These days the desktop and even portable printer is taking so much away from the traditional printing machines.

Traditional applications

There are quite a few applications that still require traditional printers though and these may range from the calendar 2011, magazines, wedding invitations and a few others. Specialized printing like for wedding invitations, magazines and the calendar 2011 all require a specialized kind of printing process. They are different in that they have specialized needs for every project and these usually cannot be accomplished with the more common desktop printing equipment. Having to print the calendar 2011 for thousands of people or the wedding invitations using different types of materials would simply not be possible using the desktop printing methods that are very common.

Specialized projects in printing

Specialized printing is definitely involved in making the calendar 2011 and it is similar to printing magazines. Sometimes the calendar 2011 may have many pages just like a magazine but there are definitely some very particular design requirements like having the calendar withstand the stress of being hanged on the wall, or designed to be upright on a desktop. Wedding invitations on the other hand have to employ another approach to printing, these specialty items are not made for quantity but the quality. Little details in wedding invitations are very important as a classic feel of printing is what is desired.
