I have seen thistechnology which is useful to remove the arsenic and fluoride content fromthe water like a lay man in the CSIR Technofest 2010, showcased by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi, at India International Trade Fair during November 14-27, 2010 New Delhi, India. This technology was developed by Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI), Gijubhai Badheka Marg, Bhavnagar - 364002, Gujarat, India.
Specific polymeric ion exchangers based drinking water purification domestic units for Arsenic and fluoride removal
In the world, in many areas or locations, water is having more arsenic or fluoride content. This water is very hazardous to health. People are affected by this fluoride content and bones and legs affected due to this content. They are not able to walk properly. Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute, Bhavnagar, Gujarat, India has developed specific polymeric Ion Exchangers and these are useful for the selective removal of Arsenic and Fluoride from drinking water.
How it works actually:
Macroporous specific polymeric ion exchangers are prepared by the copolymerization of different monomers and functionalized to introduce complex forming groups on the polymer matrices. The groups are further converted to their respective active forms which have potential to form complex either with Arsenic or Fluoride in the presence of other ions present in water, thereby making the drinking water Arsenic/Fluoride free.
Raw materials are used for making of this product is the different types of monomers like Methyl methacrylate, Methacrylic acid, Ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate, Divinyl benzene, aliphatic amines, Formaldehyde, Phosphorous acid, Aluminium sulphate, Ferric chloride, Hydrochloric acid and Caustic alkali etc.
These specific polymeric ion exchangers have excellent operating life. It can be reused repeatedly after regeneration once they get exhausted. Safe drinking water can be produced at a cost of Rs. 10/- per 1000 liter of Arsenic free water and Rs. 6/- per 1000 liter of Fluoride free water.
The novelty of specific polymeric ion exchangers, is producing safe drinking water up to the prescribed WHO permissible limits. Arsenic specific polymeric ion exchanger removes both the forms of Arsenic (
