Anti anxiety pills might offer 1 fast answer to your anxiety problems. Most of these forms of drugs are conventional anti-anxiety drugs (diazepam), in addition to newer choices like antidepressants and beta-blockers. Many may aid reduce your anxiety while you go through therapy to get to the cause of the problem. Yet, it is important that you realize that these types of drugs do not cure anxiety and they do come with negative effects. Long-term reliance on such pills isn't recommended.

Benzodiazepines may reduce anxiety quickly--usually within an hour--so they are a good alternative if you're having a panic or anxiety attack. Alprazolam (brand name Xanax), clonazepam (manufacturer Klonopin), diazepam (manufacturer Valium), and lorazepam (manufacturer Ativan) are in this category of anti anxiety meds. Side effects of benzodiazepines are sleepiness, "fogginess", and/or a sense of being uncoordinated, all of that may trigger situations when you have to be functional and alert. Benzodiazepines take quite a long time to be digested. For this reason, they may build up in your body if used for a long time. If you endure with this build up, the side effects worsen and you might develop slurred speech, confusion, depression, dizziness, inability to think clearly and reason, loss of memory and nausea or vomiting, not being able to "feel" anything. Benzodiazepines reduce the anxiety but they will also lower feelings of pleasure and suffering.

The benefit of antidepressants vs . standard anti anxiety pills is that the threat for addiction and misuse is less. However, the downside of antidepressants is that many may take from four to six weeks to give you rest from the anxiety--so, they're of no use for you if you're having a panic attack, for example.

Most often prescribed antidepressants are SSRIs like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Lexapro, and Celexa and they are not without side effects: nausea or vomiting, nervoursness, headaches, drowsiness, sexual dysfunction, wooziness, nausea or vomiting, and putting on weight.

Buspirone (manufacturer BuSpar) works just for generalized panic disorders (GAD). It reduces anxiety by increasing serotonin within the brain (like SSRIs) and decreasing dopamine. Buspirone takes about two weeks to kick into effect but it's got it's advantages: it's not as sedating, doesn't negatively impact memory and coordination and it's minimally addictive. It also has less severe side effects: nasuea, headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea or vomiting, constipation, diarrhea and dry mouth.

Beta blockers are generally used to treat high blood pressure level and heart issues. However they may work with anxiety as well by blocking the effects of norepinephrine, a worry hormone involved with the fight-or-flight response. Beta blockers control the physical signs or symptoms of anxiety like quick heartbeat, excessive sweating, dizziness, and shaking voice and fingers but not the emotional side of anxiety.
