Have you hit the point where you want to scream, "I need to get organized NOW!"? Our lives are so busy that it can be hard to find time to put everything exactly where it goes. It can be especially hard if you haven't really designated a particular place to put everything. Organizing everything you have can be a huge task and may not be worth your time. Organizing the things that you use all of the time, however, can be well worth your time.
If you have too much stuff, then you simply have to get rid of some of it. Determine how much of your time, effort and space each item is worth. It can be hard to get rid of things that are still in good shape. However, if your perfectly good items are robbing you of your sanity, then it's time to get it out of there.
Many people are perfectly willing to let good things go if they are giving them to someone who really loves or deserves it. You can waste a lot of time worrying about where everything is going to go. If you really care, announce to your friends and family that you will be giving away a huge pile of clothes and other household items. If they care about getting the hand-me-downs, they'll be there. Making a clean break with all of that excess stuff will leave you with energy to organize the things that you really need to keep.
You don't need to spend a lot of money organizing your closets and cabinets. You just need to respect the space that you have by not having more than you can comfortably fit in there. If you must, invest in a sturdy, yet inexpensive closet organizer. Make sure that it doesn't waste more space than it gives you. Determine how much hanging room you will need, how many shelves, and what height the shelves should be. You don't need your shelves 24" apart if you're using them for one foot stacks of t-shirts and shorts.
When you organize your closets, keep it simple. You don't need a lot of gimmicky items to make the most of the space that you have. There are certain types of hangers that you may want to invest in to protect coats and suits from losing their shape, but you don't necessarily have to stock your entire closet with these types of hangers.
Hang your coats and suits on a nice wood hanger or coat hanger that is the right size for your items. The rest of your clothes hangers can be ones that save space or coordinate outfits for you. Choosing the right ones can help you to quickly and easily organize a closet without the tedious upkeep of a closet with a separate bin for every little thing that you own.
