The Benefits of Self-Esteem Group Coaching

Raising your self-esteem in a group with other people have many benefits. I'm going to give you a list of six different benefits that group coaching has over personal self-esteem coaching.

It is cheap. Let's talk about money first, because that's what most people worry about. If your wallet is a bit thin, group coaching is a great option. The cheapest personal coaching session that you can find cost about 50 Euro and the most expensive ones more than ten times that price. (I charge between 65-70 Euro per personal coaching session depending on how many weeks you sign up for.) If you go for group coaching on the other hand, you will share the coaching fee with everybody else in the group. For example, when I coach groups I accept up to five people in each group, and, depending on the length of the coaching program, each person pays as little as 10 Euros per session. As you can see, group coaching can save you a lot of money.

You get support from more than one person.

During personal coaching sessions you only get support from one person your coach. During group coach sessions you will get support from many more people. In this way you can raise each others self-esteem. There will be more people listening attentively to you and you will therefore feel more "listened to". If you want to you can create great new relationships with people with similar interests, relationships that can continue to support you forever.

You will feel "less odd".

In a self-esteem coaching group you will discover that other people have similar challenges, weaknesses, dreams and goals as you. Feeling that you are not "the only one" will give you a feeling of higher self-esteem immediately. In all groups that I have coached, there have always been some moments of "Are you also like that?!?"

You can laugh at own weaknesses.

In a group in which you feel secure and appreciated for who you are, you will be able to laugh at your own weaknesses. You will be able to talk about them in a playful way, and the problems will suddenly look a lot smaller than they did to you before. Humour always makes things easier.

It is fun.

Raising your self-esteem together with others is fun! It can be difficult to play self-esteem games with yourself (although I know several ways in which it is possible!). The range of self-esteem exercises that you can do expands when you are more than one person. Also, it's simply easier to have fun and laugh when you are with others than when you are alone.

You will learn to see things from several different viewpoints.

Everybody looks at the same issues with different eyes. If you watch a film with your friend both of you will have very different experiences even though you saw exactly the same film. However, you are so used to looking at yourself and your life from your point of view that you have come to believe that this is the only way in which it can been seen. When you discuss your life with other people you will come to realise that there are many alternative ways in which you could look at it. Why not learn as many different viewpoints as possible and then adopt the one that benefits you the most?!

So are there no disadvantages of self-esteem group coaching? Yes there are. Compared to personal coaching the coach will not focus on you all of the time. You may have to be patient and wait if you want to bring up a topic that is different from what everybody else wants to speak about. When I coach groups I do my best to involve everybody as much as possible all the time. However, if you want the coach's attention 100% of the time you should go for personal coaching.
