Some goals are easier to achieve than others.
While you may be able to do most of the easy one yourself, for the more challenging goals, you will probably need the help of others in order to achieve them.
Maybe you need to lose weight but have reached a plateau. Perhaps you are trying to make it as a freelance writer but are unsure of how to get assignments. No matter what your situation, you'll soon realize that without help, you may not achieve your goal.
But how do you go about finding the help you need?
You can get help for your goals in many different ways. Here are some of the most common ones
Get a life coach
Almost all great achievers, from sports starts to presidents, rely on the help and support of trusted advisors to help them perform their best.
A personal life coach can be a great source of advice, support, encouragement and accountability. They can support you through difficult situations, serve as sounding boards for new ideas, and encourage you to go after what you really want.
A good coach also keeps you honest and focused on your commitments. While coaching is not for everyone, it is definitely something to consider.
Find a mentor
It may help to find a mentor. Choose someone who had a similar goal to yours and then succeeded.
A mentor can be a good friend, or someone you find through a professional society. Their role will be to advise you on your path and be available to answer your main questions.
If your goal is to own a fitness business, for example, you may ask your mentor if you can watch them on the job performing their day to day operations.
Visit forums
Forums and newsgroups are a great place to ask for advice. The advantage is that a lot of experts visit these specialized forums and are willing to help beginners.
It often takes less time for them to answer a simple question in a setting where they are comfortable than to have to meet with you face to face.
The only problem with this is that you may need to search several forums to find the answers you need. Try to find a forum that specializes in the area where you need help, gets a good amount of traffic, and has a number of experts in the field.
Search engines
Search engines make it easy for you to find information online. There are plenty of online newsletters, magazines, and websites that may have the answers you require.
If you need help learning how to get the most of these search engines, ask someone who is knowledgeable of find an online tutorial.
Books
Sometimes, you don't even need to ask for help. All the answers you need may be contained in a book or other source of information such as an encyclopedia. Ask your librarian or clerk at your favorite bookstore for advice.
Network
The more people you know, the easier it will be to find someone that can be a mentor or who will have the knowledge to answer your questions.
Attend networking events and exchange business cards on a regular basis. Make a note on the back of the card that will help you remember who they are and why knowing them is a good thing.
Remember to follow up and keep in touch with the people you meet. It will be easier to ask them for help if needed if you have an established relationship with them.
Ask for Help
You may find it difficult to ask for advice. Understand that everyone was a beginner at some point and most won't judge you for not knowing the answers. Don't be afraid! People may surprise you with their sincerity and willingness to help.
