subject: Listen To Yourself - Or Regret It Later [print this page] Everyone has that little intuitive voice inside them that keeps guiding them along the way. However, most of us have learned to tune that out and not listen to it.
I know I have at times. Cases in point:
I had always heard that when babies learn to walk, it's over night. I was like yeah, right, okay... Well, my son has always been a little slower in things, he was born 5 1/2 weeks early. He also has his own time schedule to do thing, not adhering to a standardized chart. He was probably about 2-3 months later than other kids in crawling, and walking was the same way. He would take 2 and 3 steps in between things, and I thought it was going to be forever before he walked. Then one day he started getting daring and took 4 and 5 steps between things. Later that afternoon, after never seeing him stand up without holding onto something, I saw him stand up in the middle of our back yard - in no man's land with nothing to hold onto. The very next day, he traveled more than the entire length of the house from corner to corner without touching anything. He went from a few steps to walking all over the house - overnight! I should have listened!
When deciding what camcorder to purchase, I had been told the Flip would do for a starting camera by many sources. Even a friend said that it was good. I did not listen and thought I'd be all fancy and professional and get one of those expensive camcorders. Surely they would be better, right? Wrong! I went through both a Canon and a Sony and had to take both of them back. Our 4 year old Kodak digital camera that could take video as well did a better job with the white balance and color. So, on my third try, I tried the Flip Ultra II. Lo and behold it worked! The white balance and color was perfect! I should have listened and saved myself the extra trips back and forth to the store.
This last one here is one I really wish I had listened to sooner. I've known about Andy Andrew's book, The Travler's Gift for some time now. I also knew that he was going to be at a conference I am attending next week. So, I knew I wanted to get it and have it read before then, but I still kept putting off the purchase. Then, he was scheduled to be on our Leadership Mastermind call a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to have it in time, but I knew there was no way I could get it to me in time, not even with my Prime shipping at Amazon. And I still procrastinated another day or two. I think I ended up ordering it after the call. Well, it finally came in and I let it sit on my kitchen table until late that evening. Finally, around 1:30 a.m. I decided to go to bed and read for a bit. Maybe a couple of pages or a chapter, but usually no more than that. Well, 80 pages later and 4:00 a.m. after I had intended on staying up all night and reading the whole book because it was so good, my body finally succumbed to sleep. I've now finished that book and it has touched me and impacted my life so significantly, I really wish I would have listened and gotten it sooner!
So, remember, when you have those intuitive inklings, when you have that inner voice telling you that you should be doing something, listen to it, you won't regret it! It's when you don't listen to yourself that eventually, somewhere down the road, you regret it. So, Listen to Yourself!
