In the past time in the designing sector emphasis was given on furniture like ornament. Then the emphasis was given on furniture's value and desirability. But from the half of 20th Century onwards emphasis was given on function as well as accessibility of the furniture. Before that furniture were made in such a way that an idea of lineage, tradition and a historical sense were connected with. In modern time we see that in furniture there are new looking, originality, technical discovery and a message of the present and future rather than what happened in past times.
In the making of Modern furniture Modernist design is used which is an outcome of a combination of some influences which are technically innovative things and manufacturing techniques, new philosophies which were evolved from the Werkbund as well as Bauhaus School, exotic foreign effects, Art Nouveau and the vast creativity of the artists and designers.

The specialty of Japanese artifact are their simplicity, their use of solid planes of color without any kind of ornament and contrasting pattern.
